About Us

St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited (SLMTL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA). The company is charged with the responsibility of managing Port Vieux Fort which is located in the town of Vieux Fort, in the south of the island of St. Lucia.

St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited was established with the principal purpose of being a privately managed company to operate the port of Vieux Fort which had been developed to be a transshipment port in the southern Caribbean. This private orientation was strategic for the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority and for the operations of the company, largely because of the need to provide a price competitive transshipment service, an optimal size and flexible workforce, and a highly efficient customer-oriented operation, in order to have penetrated the keenly competitive sub-regional transshipment market and strengthen the port's marketability in this market.

The management structure of SLMTL comprises of a Board of Directors where SLASPA is represented, a Manager, Management Team and support Staff (inclusive of Stevedores/Dock Workers). St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited (SLMTL) has twenty four (24) permanent multi-skilled staff and one hundred and ten (110) dock workers who work on rotation as required. The only areas of management retained by the parent company are the marine division consisting of Pilotage and lighthouse operations.

St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited is the sole custodian of cargo at Port Vieux Fort. Goods that have not been cleared from Customs' charge are kept in two cargo sheds and are released on the sole authorization of Customs and the respective ship's agent.

St. Lucia Marine Terminals Limited (SLMTL) is a 24 hour port, which means that vessel operations take place at any time of the day or on any day of the year as requested. However, the office hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Mondays to Fridays.

Port Vieux Fort has a Finger Pier 163m long and 15m wide, that can accommodate vessels on both sides and the depth alongside the pier, is 11m. In addition, there is a Lolo Container Berth (inclusive of a roro ramp) that is 210m in length.

Storage capacity at Port Vieux Fort is 633 TEU bottom spaces or 1899 TEU spaces stacking 3 high. There are forty (40) reefer points and twenty (20) forty-foot interchange slots.
